Friends and gifts
Sources checked Steam feature text plus community friend and gift guides. The exact UID button label is Unverified and can move in a patch.
Player friends and NPC friendship are different systems. Adding someone lets you visit. Gifting a villager raises that villager.
Friend codes / UIDs are exchanged in the social menu (watch menu, then the friends area). Paste the code. There is no matchmaking queue on the Steam pitch — you bring the people.
Visit a friend’s town for the co-op the store page is selling: hang out, and build together if their house allows it.
Crystal Flower is a gift guides mention often. It is not a universal favorite. Villager likes are on the NPC page, and the full matrix is a database we do not keep.
Steam’s line is “forge warm connections with friends in a town.” The menu that does it is easy to miss because the same word, gift, also means the thing you hand an NPC.
Add a friend
- Open the watch menu (Tab on PC).
- Find the friends or social section and your own code (players call it a UID or friend code).
- Send your code, or enter theirs. Paste it.
- Accept the request if the game asks for a confirm.
Visiting
Once you are friends, visit their town from the same social menu. That is the multiplayer: their streets, their house, building together when the house tools allow it. There is no ranked mode hiding behind this.
A visit is also the practical reason to keep your own town walkable. You do not need a finished mansion in week one. You do need a house people can find, which is mostly “do not block the mailbox.”
Gifts, two meanings
| You are holding… | It affects | Where to read |
|---|---|---|
| A friend code | Who can visit | This page |
| Flowers, cooked food, fish | An NPC’s friendship | NPC gifts |
| A hobby item a resident requested | DG medals, sometimes friendship | DG level |
Friendship stages with villagers climb when you talk, complete their requests, and give liked gifts. Dense stage tables exist (Tidebell is the one players cite). We are not reproducing them. The useful rule is: liked gift beats random gift, and a request item beats both when the board is asking for it.
What to carry
A small gift stack is enough:
- One liked flower if you already grow flowers (Crystal Flower only if that villager’s UI shows it).
- One cooked dish, once cooking is open. Dishes pull double duty as gifts and as gold.
- The request item, separate from the gift stack, so you do not hand away tomorrow’s board.
