Cook before you sell, once a recipe exists. Dishes and jams beat the raw crop or fish at the vendor.
Massimo is the cooking mentor. Community pages put the unlock behind a Hobby Expansion Ticket, sometimes also behind DG level 6. Check your own ticket screen.
For gold and for resident requests, cooking is the usual first extra hobby. Take another hobby if you know you will not open the kitchen.
This is not a recipe database. Learn recipes from Massimo’s shop and from the cooking UI.
Cooking is the hobby that makes the rest of the economy make sense. Fishing and gardening produce ingredients. The kitchen is where those ingredients become request turn-ins, gifts, and a better sell price.
Unlock
- Mentor: Massimo. Character guides describe a shop of ingredients, recipes, and furniture.
- Cost: a Hobby Expansion Ticket, not a gold sink you can grind past. The first ticket arrives with the early DG ranks (DG 2 on the gardening wiki’s account).
- Extra gate: at least one source says DG level 6 as well as the ticket. Unverified, and disputed. If Massimo is missing, you are short a ticket or short a rank. Both are on DG level.
A cooking session
- Open the recipe list and pin one dish you can already supply. Do not buy a recipe whose crop you cannot grow yet.
- Batch it. Community tips mention more than one stove and the risk of burning a pot. Stay in the kitchen until the batch finishes.
- Split the output three ways: request board, gift stack, vendor.
- Plant the replacement seeds the same day, or the kitchen starves tomorrow.
Jams and simple dishes are the early margin because they use the fast crops (tomato and the like). Teas use flowers, which is a Blanc project, not a day-one one. Fancy recipes can lose gold if the ingredients were the expensive seeds. Check the vendor price of the raw stack against the dish once, then trust that comparison until a patch.
What this page leaves out
A full recipe book with ingredients and unlock levels is the same project as a fish database. Heartopia.Life and Heartodex track it. We will say when the priority changes (for example if a patch makes raw crops sell for more than the dish). We will not mirror every cake.
